Renault K4M 1.6l Engine Problems and Reliability. This engine was designed for a small budget car and had to be cheap and reliable. But the K4M has more expensive parts and components compared to the K7M. It should be noted that K4M engines are sensitive to fuel quality (unstable work).

I have a 2004 Laguna 1.6 with the K4M Engine. I've had this car from pretty much new with no problems untill now. Everythings electronicaly controlled, so no manual adjustment possible. I have been having problems with the idle speed since last summer.

My car (2002 1.6 Laguna II | K4M engine | 56K miles) started idling erratically. The revs don't really alter significantly but the whole car shakes intermittently when stopped at lights. The same problem occurs, but less noticeably while driving at any speed.

The stuttering is hard, and then it seems to pick up ok. The issue is not present as far as I can tell in easier accelerations/normal driving. The spark plugs have been changed recently(although there was some oil on one of the spark plug wells). What could the issue be? The engine is the K4M model(1,6L with 270K km).
