    The US and its allies use various human intelligence (HUMINT) sources, such as diplomats, defectors, and covert agents, to gather information on the Soviet bloc and other adversaries.
    1990s-2000s
    The internet and digital networks become a major source of open-source intelligence (OSINT) and cyber or digital network intelligence (CYBINT or DNINT) for various intelligence agencies and organizations.

    Geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) are gathered from satellite and aerial photography, or mapping/terrain data.
