A scherzo (/ ˈskɛərtsoʊ /, UK also / ˈskɜːrt -/, Italian: [ˈskertso]; plural scherzos or scherzi), in western classical music, is a short composition – sometimes a movement from a larger work such as a symphony or a sonata.

Beethoven 9 scherzo is probably my favorite. The pizzicato ostinato from Tchaikovsky's 4th also comes to mind. Oh, and Bruckner's 7th also has a cool scherzo. Always fun to see the composers rolling up their sleeves a bit.

What's your favourite scherzo? I just realized I've always liked slower pieces/movements better than the faster ones. However, I've recently discovered the Scherzo movement of Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto No. 2 and it got me thinking about what I might be missing out on.
