    In an ecosystem, living organisms are grouped into producers, consumers, and decomposers, the former representing all plant life, consumers the organisms that eat them and each other, and the latter those scavengers and bacteria that break down dead organic matter. Together, these living components are known as biotic factors.
    The living parts of an ecosystem are called biotic factors while the environmental factors that they interact with are called abiotic factors.
    The living organisms within an ecosystem are its biotic factors (Figure below). Living things include bacteria, algae, fungi, plants, and animals, including invertebrates, animals without backbones, and vertebrates, animals with backbones.
    Biotic factors of the ecosystem are living things; such as plants, animals, and bacteria, while abiotic are non-living components; such as water, soil and atmosphere.
