Gallstones

Very common

Abnormal stone-like mass, usually of undissolved cholesterol, formed in the gallbladder. This causes sudden severe pain in upper right side of the abdomen.

Symptoms may include:

• Upper abdominal pain
• Fever
• Severe pain in the upper middle part of the abdomen

Pancreatitis

Common

A disease condition characterized by inflammation of the pancreas.

Symptoms may include:

• Upper abdominal pain
• Nausea and vomiting
• Fever and chills
• Tender and swollen abdomen

Appendicitis

Common

Inflammation of the appendix, a finger-shaped pouch present at the lower right side of the abdomen. Starts with a dull pain in the middle or right side of the abdomen and moves down to the lower right abdomen.

Symptoms may include:

• Upper abdominal pain
• Nausea, vomiting, fever, tachycardia (fast heartbeats), and foul breath
• Constipation is a common feature but diarrhea might occur in some cases

Heart attack

Very common

Damage to the heart muscle caused by a loss of blood supply due to blocks in the arteries.

Symptoms may include:

• Upper abdominal pain
• Crushing chest pain
• Arms may feel heavy
• Shortness of breath
