Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is considered much safer than the traditional procedure, although risks such as infection, pain or stiffness, nerve damage or the need for repeated surgery do still exist. These risks are considered rare, as most people achieve successful outcomes from this procedure.Questions?

I (25M) fell snowboarding in early January, and had an arthroscopic Rotator Cuff and Bankart repair on my LEFT shoulder in early March, and am about to have an arthroscopic Bankart repair on my RIGHT shoulder in mid-May (no rotator cuff, separate injury).

Bankart lesions are injuries of the anteroinferior aspect of the glenoid labral complex and are often found in association with a Hill-Sachs lesion. This injury is a common complication of anterior shoulder dislocation and/or repeated anterior shoulder subluxation s.

Superior labrum lesion from anterior to posterior (SLAP) often presents together with other shoulder pathologies such as rotator cuff tear (RCT), but it is uncertain if repairing both SLAP and RCT has superior clinical outcomes over isolated repairs of SLAP and RCT.

A side-by-side comparison of the original Bankart repair (performed by Blundell Bankart) and the modern arthroscopic Bankart repair (performed by Dr Peter Millett) is presented in Video 1. The similarities and differences between the original and modern Bankart repair techniques are discussed in this section, and summarized in Figure 1 .
