Apr 2, 2008 · The place I just brought my latest bike is a high end store. Except for bikes on display on racks, most of their bikes hang overhead on metal beams on the nose of the saddle. It's funny to see maybe 50 or 60 bikes costing several thousand dollars each hanging that way.

May 19, 2011 · I'm moving, and will need to fit ten bikes (including a tandem) and a bicycle trailer, plus tools, ladder, a few wheels, and various and sundry things into a one car garage with a door into the house. Right now, they're all in a one car detached garage.

I originally planned on keeping the bike on a stand in my attached garage but I'm second guessing after comments from a rep at local Performance Bike suggesting that bikes should NOT be stored in a garage.

+1 To Jim below, I never find "great" bikes at garage sales. But I have found some good ones. The best I have found have been a nice Cannondale racing bike, a Cannondale touring bike, a Trek 412, a Panasonic 2500 racing bike, and a Motobecane Jubile Sport. This is over several years, going to garage sales just about every week.

At 23 years old, you'll have to learn to get up early and strike early at garage sales. Also, sometimes you just have to ask, before you get there or when you get there. Head to the garage first too if it's an estate sale. I only score bikes 2-3 times a year at garage sales, and normally those are from ones where the bike(s) are not advertised.

Unheralded bikes are still out there: "Road bike $125" was a Giordana w/8-sp Campy. "Colnago $125" was, of course, a Colnago (norskagent beat me to it) "Schwinn $20" was a Heavy Duti, sold for $200 to an Iowan. "Pinarello $1000 OBO" was a never-ridden Montello w/spare wheels, 8-sp Syncro, for $800

Jul 17, 2017 · A chain tool might help (it'll also help change the chain, if that ends up being the problem!). Put it on the stiff link, turn the handle about a quarter turn to push the pin in (but don't actually move the pin), turn the tool around and try the same thing.

Comparing that to similar commutes on fendered bikes, there would be a bit of dirt and grit on my shoes, the chain would have needed no more than a wipe-down with a rag, clothes would need to be washed because I sweat a lot on a bike. I don't want to over-promise.

I would like to store/display two bikes on the wall in our small office/bedroom. Looking at storage rack options there are the gravity racks and the compression racks. The issues seem to be that the gravity racks can fall over and the compression racks seem to come loose over time and would end up crushing the carpet/mat on the floor.
