  2. Tickseed
    • According to 2 sources
Any of various plants of the genus Coreopsis in the composite family, chiefly of North America, having showy radiate flower heads with yellow or, rarely, purplish flowers. Also called tickseed. [New Latin Coreopsis, genus name : Greek koris, bedbug; see sker- in Indo-European roots + -opsis.]
The name “coreopsis” stems from the Greek koris, for “bedbug,” and opis, meaning “resembling,” because the seeds look like little bedbugs. The common name is tickseed, which comes from the seeds’ resemblance to ticks. Coreopsis is usually planted as a perennial which spreads with rhizomatous roots.
