Crepey skin is most common under the eyes and on the upper inner arms. Sun damage is the most common cause of crepey skin, but it certainly isn’t the only cause. Crepey skin can also result from aging, a lack of moisture, excessive weight loss, or any combination of these.

Crepey skin under the eyes is caused by reduced levels of collagen and a breakdown of elastin fibers in the skin. Collagen and elastin are proteins which help to keep the skin firm, plump and elastic (think of the bounce-back of a rubber band), so when they start to diminish, the skin becomes thinner, loose, and doesn’t retain its shape.
