Book Overview:

I once thought that the term “Broken Heart” was just a phrase used to describe temporary sadness until I had a child diagnosed with brain cancer. In the beginning of our nightmare, we were in crisis management. There was no time for the luxury of self-pity. Decisions had to be made and care had to be given. Only with the love and support of the people around me did we survive. The experience of different prayers coming to us from different traditions has been fascinating. All of these prayers offered countless times in Chip’s name, I believe is why we still have him today.

One friend, however, took “candle lighting” to a new level. It became his mission. Scott’s work involves extensive travel. In those travels and on family vacations, he began to seek out churches to light a candle for Chip. New churches, old churches, rich and poor churches, Christian and non-Christian churches, it never mattered, Scott was on a mission to light a candle for Chip. His physical journey was transformed into a faith journey, and his mission helped carry us and mend my broken heart.

As you read Scott’s journey, let his mission touch your heart. It is living, breathing proof that the Holy Spirit is alive in this world and looking for hearts in need of mending. Maybe it is your own heart. Maybe you can pray that your prayers mend the heart of someone you know, or even better, the hearts of the parents of 46 children that today will hear the words, “Your child has CANCER.”

I woke up around 3 am last night out of nowhere ..i dont even know what channnel my tv was on but it was the story about chips nation ….first of all i said a prayer for your family and chip …the ironic thing is my niece just recieved a bone marrow transplant (leukemia) last friday in philadelphia ..i now live in florida and am always struggling with how to help them from so far…i am going to try to set something similar up for them.. a place where people can just sign on and sign up for donations or volunteering to help …as we know and your story told others of the tremendous work and the financial burden of the patients family.. could you just give me a little info to get me started for her .
thank you and god bless chip , your family and all who give of themselves

    Chip & Family ,
I heard about your story over YouTube. Someone was singing to help raise money for you and I was wondering what Chip’s Nation is. So then i found a whole news story on it and thought it was incredibly touching. I will do anything i can to help out. I pray for the best for you and your family. God bless you.

Good morning Chip and family. I know you don’t know who I am, but I learned about your family through the EMT who brought you home, Brad. You all have an incredible story to share and to say it is “touching” doesn’t do it justice. I will pray that God has His hand in your recovering, as we know he does, and you are able to return to the outdoors. I can’t wait to see the deer you kill when you are able to go to Montana…that will be an awesome trip. Mom and Dad…to see you able to smile is amazing. As a parent I don’t know if I could find that in me, but to see you doing so in encouraging and a testimony that you have faith. I am wonderfully blessed to have seen your story and look forward to following along as Chip continues his journey of recovery.

    All in His Grace!!
