Lactation was prevented in 4 of 8 women who received the 400 mcg dose and all women who received the 600 or 800 mcg dose. Only 1 of 8 women receiving placebo had cessation of lactation by day 14 postpartum.

To prevent milk production (lactation): You should take 1 mg (two 0.5 mg tablets) on the first day after delivery. To stop lactation once you have started to breastfeed: You should take 0.25 mg (one half of Dostinex 0.5 mg tablet) every 12 hours for two days. Most women will have good result in drying up their milk after one dose of cabergoline taken early. However, a small number may need a second dose . If you think you may need a second dose you should contact your midwife or doctor to discuss it. effects and 5% will have more moderate side-effects.

Cabergoline is given as a single 1 mg dose (2 x 0.5 mg tab) during the first day postpartum. Onset of effect occurs within 3 hours of administration and the duration of effect lasts up to at least 14-21 days in puerperal women.

A single dose of 0.25 mg of cabergoline should not be exceeded in nursing women treated for suppression of established lactation to avoid potential postural hypotension (see section 4.2).
