  2. To meet ADA standards, a drinking fountain must have12345:
    • A clear floor space of at least 30 inches by 48 inches for easy access, with no equipment or obstacles in the foot space.
    • A spout height of no higher than 36 inches from the floor to the spout.
    • A front edge that extends 17 to 19 inches from the wall.
    • A knee space of at least 27 inches from the floor to the bottom of the fountain and 8 inches from the front edge of the fountain to the wall.
    • A toe space of 9 inches high and 6 inches to the wall.

    According to ADA standards, clear floor space of a minimum of thirty inches from the front edge of the unit and twenty four inches on either side facing the center line of the unit, forty-eight inches, is required for easy access to a drinking fountain. This is an important part of the two dimensional design of the floor space.

    To be ADA compliant, wall-mounted water fountains are required to have knee space between the floor or ground and bottom of the fountain of at least 27 inches.
