Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), the leading provider of distributed application and content delivery services, today announced the continued industry adoption of Edge Side Includes (ESI), an open markup language co-developed by Akamai, Oracle, and other industry leaders to define Web page fragmentso for dynamic aggregation, assembly, and delivery at the Internet's "edge."

Allows edge servers to process edge side include (ESI) code to generate dynamic content. To apply this behavior, you need to match on a content​Type, path, or filename. Since this behavior requires more parsing time, you should not apply it to pages that lack ESI code, or to any non-HTML content.

Edge-Side Include (ESI) is a web standard originally proposed by Akamai and Oracle, among other companies. It allows an Edge Server (like Fastly’s caches) to "mix and match" content from multiple URLs. Fastly customers can use ESI to cache pages that contain both cacheable and uncacheable content (such as user-specific information).
