The Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914 is a United States federal law which established the Federal Trade Commission. The Act was signed into law by US President Woodrow Wilson in 1914 and outlaws unfair methods of competition and unfair acts or practices that affect commerce.

Federal Trade Commission Act (FTCA), federal legislation that was adopted in the United States in 1914 to create the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and to give the U.S. government a full complement of legal tools to use against anticompetitive, unfair, and deceptive practices in the marketplace.

Part of the FTC Act bans unfair business practices, those that cause substantial and unavoidable injury to the consumer. In determining whether a practice is unfair, the FTC considers a set of criteria established in the Supreme Court’s 1972 Sperry and Hutchinson ruling.
