Eowyn's injury boiled down to a broken arm and the Black Breath, which Aragorn normally found easy to heal, except that Eowyn resisted healing since she had lost her will to live.

A thought I wanted to share and discuss with you all is the following: In the Houses of Healing, Aragorn was able to heal Faramir after his injury from the Southron's arrow, but more impressively, he is able to heal Eowyn and Merry from their injuries sustained by the Witch-king of Angmar, Sauron's greatest captain.

In RotK, Aragorn was able to heal Faramir, Eowyn, Merry, and innumerable others after the battle at Minas Tirith using the athelas plant and some sort of power. Tolkien speculated in the House of Healing chapter that he may have had some powers from Westernesse, and it was clear to those watching he was combating the black breath.

Last week we saw how when Aragorn anointed Faramir with the water and the healing herb how the fragrance that filled the room evoked the deepest longing of Faramir’s heart. Now as Aragorn “laves her brow” with the water and her right arm “lying cold and nerveless on the coverlet” a new fragrance fills the air about them.

When Aragorn leads his company away from Edoras towards the Dwimorberg, the haunted mountain, and the Paths of the Dead, he leaves Éowyn behind him, his last words to her nothing more than, “Nay, lady”.
