88% of humanity lives in the Northern Hemisphere. 82% lives in the Eastern Hemisphere. The maps above are very similar to the land and water hemispheres of the world. The map is not showing center of population, which is unknown globally but thought to be somewhere north of South Asia.

The Western Hemisphere contains all of North America and South America and their islands and surrounding waters, as well as parts of Africa, Europe, Antarctica, and a part of Russia. The Western Hemisphere has less land than the Eastern Hemisphere, containing about 29% of the Earth’s total land.

There are many indigenous people groups that live throughout Latin America, such as descendants of the Maya, Aztecs, and Inca, and they still speak the indigenous languages of their ancestors.

While around 1.47 billion people live on the continent as of 2024, this is forecast to grow to 3.9 billion by 2100.
