  2. Budding
    • According to 3 sources
Hydra reproduces asexually by budding. During the summer season, when the animal is well-fed and healthy, budding is the usual reproduction method. It occurs all time of the year. A bulging appears due to the repeated mitotic division of epidermal interstitial cells near the middle or in the basal part of the body.
Most hydra species do not have any gender system. Instead, when food is plentiful, many Hydra reproduce asexually by budding. The buds form from the body wall, grow into miniature adults and break away when mature. When a hydra is well fed, a new bud can form every two days.
Hydra reproduce asexually through a process known as budding. For Hydra, this is the most common mode of reproduction and occurs under favorable environmental conditions. During budding, a small bud develops near the basal part of the parent Hydra through repeated mitotic division of the epidermal interstitial cells.
