    Was Arrian a Greek?
    Arrian was born between 85 and 90 AD in Nicomedia, an ancient Greek city in the Anatolian region of Bythynia in what was then a part of the Roman Empire. His parents were Greeks but also held Roman citizenship. The family had probably enjoyed Roman citizenship for several generations and adopted the Roman surname, “Flavius”.
