Ba Sing Se is the capital of the Earth Kingdom. The Earth Kingdom is the largest and most diverse of the four nations, comprised of a massive continent in the eastern hemisphere and several islands.

The symbol for earth and earthbending is a tall rough isosceles trapezoidal shape, the base of which is made up of the Bagua trigram "Kun", denoting "earth". Inside, at the top, is a spiral running counterclockwise.

The Avatar Symbols depict the earthbending form as the most rigid of all bending forms and of all the other symbols. This is in line with the element it represents – Earth. Earthbending originated in the Earth Kingdom with the first earthbenders ever being badgermoles.
