Self pollination, also known as autogamy, is the process by which a flower’s own pollen fertilizes its own ovules. In simpler terms, it is when a flower can reproduce without the need for pollen transfer between different flowers.
As described by the International Union of Botanical Sciences, autogamy refers to a sort of self-pollination that is mostly found in flowering plants and in which the pollen grains of an anther of a flower are deposited on the stigma of a different plant. Within the same flower, autogamy might take place.
