Clyfford Still (November 30, 1904 – June 23, 1980) was an American painter, and one of the leading figures in the first generation of Abstract Expressionists, who developed a new, powerful approach to painting in the years immediately following World War II.

Still was a notoriously difficult character who often shunned the New York art world, resisted most critiques of his work and went to exceptional lengths to control how his paintings were sold, collected and exhibited.

The collection consists of approximately 830 paintings and more than 2,300 works on paper and sculpture, including: 130 paintings dating from 1920–1943: works from Still’s student years, Depression-era works, Surrealist-inspired works, and first forays into abstraction

Clyfford Still has some works of art that continue to be famous or well known. Most of his artwork is shown at the Clifford Still Museum in Denver, Colorado, but some other popular pieces are scattered in museums and private collectors around the United States.
