    Not to be confused with emoticons (from English emotion + icon), which are smileys made with punctuation marks – like this one –, emoji are a Japanese creation. In fact, the term emoji itself comes from the fusion of the Japanese words “e” (絵) that means “image” and “moji” (文字) that means “character”.
