• The causes may include:

• Practice exercises to strengthen your knees and muscles around the knees
• Avoid overusing the knees, especially when there is pain
• Maintain a healthy height to weight ratio
• Use shoe inserts to distribute the weight across the knee

If untreated the complications may lead to

• Instability in the knee
• Persistent pain in the knee
• Increased risk of osteoarthritis
• Ligament tear in the knee

Treatment includes physical therapy and medication. Although treatable, the condition needs life-long precautionary measures to prevent complications.
