I've a theory. It isn't elaborated on in the manga, but we do know what L's reason is. Let me expand on it. Most people who sit, they sit for comfort like a normal person. This causes a person to relax, chill, and feel comfortable. Now try sitting like L does for a long time and you will find that it gets uncomfortable after a short while.

Feb 14, 2014 · Since i watched Death Note and "L"'s unique sitting position i thought i tried it for myself. I can't remember ever in my life sitting in such a position but i have to admit... THE SITTING POSITION IS DEFINITELY COMFORTABLE!!! I reccommend to atleast try to sit like "L" that for 5 minutes or so.
