No, there is not a free shuttle that traces the Art Deco areas. There maybe paid tour groups that handle that. Check TripAdvisor for reccomendations for paid tours. For tours through the official Art Deco League, check their website by searching for MDPL (Miami Design Preservation League). TA doesn't allow me to publish the link. They offer some great walking tours. Their Center is at 10th and Ocean Drive on the water side. Great place to get some unique gifts. Free shuttles do run on Washington Ave (3 blocks from Ocean Drive) courtesy of the City of Miami Beach. They have AC and a fun way to ride around the Beach. Try going up to mid/North Beach to see the old Mimo (Miami Modern) buildings also. Have fun! Cheers, L&J Miami Beach

Need advice on how to spend our short amount of time here! Next week I will be vacationing in the Keys with my husband and our 14 year old son, who is currently using a wheelchair. We are flying into Fort Lauderdale on a Tuesday, renting a convertible, then spending the night in Miami before driving down to the Keys Wednesday. We will be in Miami from 3:30pm Tuesday until around 2:30 the next day.... We are most interested walking around the art deco area and Ocean Drive. We'd like to see it both during the day and also lit up at night. A wonderful dinner Tuesday night, and equally great breakfast or lunch Wednesday is a must, and of course, some people watching! I'm unsure if we should stay in Homestead and just visit the area or should we actually stay there? (looking at Collins Ave. hotels) Spending the extra money isn't really an issue. It's whether or not it will be too noisy and too much of a party atmosphere at night for our son... Any advice would be sooooo appreciated- running out of time!

It will be Spring Break through the end of the month, so it will be noisy. I live here and I can tell you that the middle of the week is a good time for you, but you do not want to stay in Homestead, it is simply too far, and the traffic is insane coming up here from there. My recommendation would be to stay up the beach just a bit past Ocean on Collins around 17th street near Lincoln Road Mall. It is more family oriented and you will have only a short walk down to Ocean drive (couple blocks), and those hotels back up to the beach with beach access. Then you can enjoy it without being awake all night with the noise. Do your best to stay away from the street in the back of the hotel.
