The Pixie-bob is a breed of domestic cat claimed to be the progeny of naturally occurring bobcat hybrids. However, DNA testing has failed to detect bobcat marker genes, and Pixie-bobs are considered wholly domestic for the purposes of ownership, cat fancy registration, and import and export. They were however selected and bred to look like bobcats.

The origin of the Pixie-bob cat is the stuff of legends. They were believed to stem from naturally-occurring matings between the American bobcat and feral domestic cats or barn cats, although there is no verifiable proof since DNA tests do not back up the claim. Pixie-bob cats are large and sturdy and look a lot like bobcats.

The Pixie Bob is what is known as a polydactyl breed because they have more than the usual number of toes on one or more of their feet. The breed came about when a lady called Carol Ann Brewer bought a spotted male kitten with a short tail and patterned coat in 1985.

The Pixie-Bob cat breed originated in the USA in the 1980s from wild looking barn cats and other cats which resemble a cross between a North American Bobcat and a domestic cat. The original kitten from the beginning of the development of the breed was called Pixie, hence the name. The breed came to Europe in 2001 but is not common.
