  2. Crepuscular rays
    • According to 5 sources
Brilliant beams of light extending from clouds are often seen during the early morning or early evening when the sun is shining. This phenomenon is known as crepuscular rays, as it occurs during crepuscular hours — those around dusk and dawn. Rays of light can change direction when they encounter small particles suspended in the atmosphere.
Crepuscular rays (also called sun rays and sunbeams) are created when sunlight shines through gaps in clouds and continues through an atmosphere that contains dust and/or haze. This dust or haze scatters some of the bright light that can be seen against the darker cloud and/or darker blue sky background.
Crepuscular rays are shades of sunlight originating below the horizon, shining through cloud edges and openings into the evening sky at sunset. It primarily occurs when sunlight travels through broken clouds but also happens when the light travels through other objects under certain conditions.
crepuscular rays, shafts of light which are seen just after the sun has set and which extend over the western sky radiating from the position of the sun below the horizon. They form only when the sun has set behind an irregularly shaped cloud or mountain which lets the rays of the sun pass through a cloud in bands.
Sunlight shining through clouds, giving rise to crepuscular rays Crepuscular rays are sunbeams that originate when the Sun appears to be just above or below a layer of clouds, during the twilight period.
