In ancient Egypt, peasants were considered as the lowest level in social classes. Peasants lived in mud brick houses with a bad condition. They equipped their rooms with a bed, a bench, pots for cooking, baskets and tools for grinding wheat.

Egyptian social classes had some porous borders but they were largely fixed and clearly delineated, not unlike the medieval feudal system. Clearly, the groups of people nearest the top of society were the richest and most powerful.

The lower class people were buried with some possessions, too. However, the items were not as lavish as those that were buried with pharaohs. Instead, they were buried with whatever material items the family could part with such as amulets, fruit, and bread (via Ancient Egypt). In some cases, the poor were buried with nothing at all.

Social class had a massive influence on ancient Egyptian society, affecting every citizen, from the Pharaohs to the lower classes. This was a lasting concept in Egypt, as evidenced by its intricate documentation of the different social orders and legal systems in place.

Women of the upper classes knew a similar lifestyle but might have taken more time caring for the children, while in the lower classes, the care of the home and children were wholly the woman's responsibility.
