  2. Nishan Sahib
    • According to 5 sources
The Nishan Sahib (Punjabi: ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ, lit. 'respected ensign'), also known as the Sikh flag, is used to represent the Sikh people worldwide. In 1936, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee ratified the Sikh Rehet Maryada, which states its colour as either basanti (xanthic) or surmai (navy blue).
The “Nishan Sahib” is the Sikh flag. The Nishan Sahib identifies the location of a Gurdwara (Sikh temple). The Sikh flag was conceived of by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru. Traditionally, this flag has a yellow/orange triangular shape, and bears the Adi Shakti symbol, representing the primal force of God.
The Nishan Sahib, also known as the Sikh flag, holds great significance in Sikhism as a sacred emblem that represents the Sikh faith and its values. The Nishan Sahib is a distinct saffron-colored triangular flag with a navy blue Khanda symbol in the center.
Nishan Sahib is the name for the triangular Sikh flag which marks all gurdwaras and other religious premises of the Sikhs. Nishan is a Persian word with multiple meanings, one of these being a flag or standard. Sahib, an Arabic word with the applied meaning of lord or master, is here used as an honorific.
The Nishan Sahib is a triangular Sikh flag with a tassel at its end that is made of cotton or silk fabric. The title Nishan Sahib means "exalted ensign," and the flag furls outside Gurdwaras on a tall flagpole. The flagpole, which is draped in fabric, is topped with a Khanda (In the past an Astbuj, nagani barsha or a teer would be placed on top).
