The Atlantic Ocean The Atlantic measures approximately 85,133,000 square kilometers. Even though it is the second largest ocean in the world, the Pacific is roughly twice as big.

The North Atlantic Ocean spans 16.02 million square miles, while the South Atlantic Ocean covers about 15.55 million square miles. It is 27,480 feet deep at the deepest point (Puerto Rico Trench) but has an average depth of 11,962 feet below the water surface.

Covering approximately 20 percent of the Earth’s surface, the Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean basin in the world, following only the Pacific. However, it is only slightly larger than half the size of the Pacific Ocean.
