The state of Louisiana is home to four federally recognized Native American tribes, the Chitimacha, the Coushatta, the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians, and the Tunica-Biloxi. [1]

This state, known for its vibrant Cajun and Creole heritage, also holds a profound history of Indigenous peoples who have shaped its landscape, traditions, and identity. Today, Louisiana is home to numerous federally recognized tribes, each with its own unique language, customs, and stories.

Today, there are four Federally recognized Tribes in Louisiana: the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, and the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana; and 11 State recognized Tribes.
