The ending of Inside Man is explained in different ways by different sources. According to one source, criminologist Jefferson Grieff is on death row for the brutal murder of his wife, and due to his societal position is allowed to consult on cases of moral worth. Stanley Tucci's Sherlock Holmesesque character is repeatedly asked about this murder, and he is reluctant to explain his motive. In the final scene, Grieff and Harry meet via Skype call a week later, the two of them behind bars. Grieff’s execution is still scheduled for two weeks later as the deal did not work out ¹. Another source explains that the last scene shows Frazier finding a diamond in his pocket and realizing that Russell was the one bumping into him at the bank, dropping the diamond on his jacket as a “friendly gift” ².
