Classful IP addressing is a method of organizing and managing IP addresses, which are used to identify devices on a network. An IP address is a 32-bit unique address that has an address space of 2^32. This method divides the IP address into five classes: A, B, C, D, and E. Each class has a specific range of addresses and is used for different purposes12.
Class A
Class A addresses are used for large networks. The first 8 bits (1 octet) identify the network, and the remaining 24 bits identify the host within that network. The first bit of the first octet is always set to 0. The range of Class A addresses is from 0.0.0.0 to 127.255.255.255. The default subnet mask for Class A is 255.0.0.012.
