Tell your doctor right away if any of these rare but serious side effects occur

• Difficulty breathing
• Persistent cough

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including

• Rash
• Itching/swelling
• Severe dizziness
• Trouble breathing

Other things to note

• Mineral oil may leak from the rectum, especially when taken at high doses. The leakage may dirty clothes and cause irritation/itching around the anus. Lowering or dividing the dose may help decrease this problem. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
• If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

• Use sunscreen
• Room temperature
• For cream products : Read directions carefully before start of therapy. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth or genitals. Clean skin before applying. Use at the same time(s) daily as directed. Apply a thin layer and rub in. Skin may be more prone to sunburn. Medication may stain clothing or bedding. Protect from heat, light, & moisture.
• For emulsion products : Do not use in kids less than 6. Not recommended for long term use in pregnancy. Take on an empty stomach. Shake well & measure with dosing spoon/cup/syringe. Avoid taking other drugs within 2 hours. Only take longer than 7 days if directed by MD. Call doctor if you are not getting better. Seniors more prone to toxicity.
• For oil products : Measure dose using a dosing spoon/cup/syringe.

• For emulsion products : Shake well before using.
• For emulsion products : Take on an empty stomach

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you've had:

• Difficulty swallowing
• Appendicitis or symptoms of appendicitis (such as nausea/vomiting, sudden or unexplained stomach/abdominal pain)
• A sudden change in bowel habits that lasts for longer than 2 weeks
• Bleeding from the rectum
• Stomach problems (such as a hiatal hernia, gastroparesis)

Products that may interact with this drug include:

• Blood thinners (such as warfarin)
• Stool softeners (such as docusate)
