A luminaire is what most people would call a light fixture, it’s the complete assembly that includes the lampholder and lamp. A portable luminaire is one equipped with a cord and plug so that it can be moved around.

Light Fixture and Luminaire. Luminaire, or as many call light fixture, is the whole construction encapsulating the light source. It’s made up of different components, including a lamp holder, mounting, reflector, glass or shade cover. The real light source, the illuminant, is inside the luminaire.
