  1. Generic name: ciclopirox

    This medication is used to treat fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. This medication is also used to treat a skin condition known as pityriasis (tinea versicolor), a fungal infection that causes a lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms, or legs.

    Precautions

    • Success is dependent on completing therapy course
    • Use for other problems only if directed by MD.
    • For cream products : Use at the same time(s) daily as directed.
    • For gel products : Wash hands before and after using.
    • For shampoo products : Lather into hair and rinse after 3 minutes. Shampoo twice weekly at 3-4 day intervals. May discolor light- colored hair. May take 4 weeks for full benefit of therapy.
    • For solution, non-oral products : If available, read the patient package insert. Usually used at bedtime. Avoid contact with eyes, inside of nose or mouth. May take 6 months for full benefit of therapy. Keep medicine away from heat or flames. Protect from light.
    • For suspension, topical products : Clean and dry skin, then use a thin layer on area. Shake well before using. Wash hands after applying. Do not bandage unless told by doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth or vagina. Call doctor if you are not getting better.
