Morrissey has accused The Simpsons of "hatred" and "complete ignorance" after he was parodied in a recent episode. In a letter on his website, the star called the show "a taunting lawsuit" but said he did not have the money to fund a legal action.

The latest news on him is that he’s been brought onto Chicago’s Riot Fest lineup as half of a replacement for Nine Inch Nails (the other half being Slipknot) and fans are rightfully upset. Morrissey’s last appearance at Riot Fest in 2016 left many festival-goers angry, and his current political views are the antithesis of punk.

In recent years, Morrissey has been criticised for his outspoken and controversial views. He has called halal meat "evil", accused London Mayor Sadiq Khan of being unable to "talk properly" and appeared to defend actor Kevin Spacey over allegations of sexual abuse.

Accusations of racism have dogged Morrissey for years, of course, from his flirtations with fascist imagery in the Nineties (he famously sang “National Front Disco” at a Finsbury Park festival while draped in a Union Jack flag), to his grim pronouncements on music by black artists – including the assertion in a Melody Maker interview that “a black pop conspiracy” was preventing The Smiths from fulfilling their potential.
