With the creation of Sesame Street, producers and writers of a children's television show used, for the first time, educational goals and a curriculum to shape its content. It was also the first time a show's educational effects on young children were studied. Shortly after creating Sesame Street, its producers developed what came to be called "the CTW model" (named for the show's production company, The Children's Television Workshop), a system of television show planning, production, and evaluation based on collaborations between producers, writers, educators, and researchers. The show was initially funded by government and private foundations but has become somewhat self-supporting due to revenues from licensing arrangements, international sales, and other media. By 2006, there were independently produced versions, or "co-productions", of Sesame Street broadcast in twenty countries.

"What was the name of that song again??" This November marks the 55th anniversary of "Sesame Street", so here are the opening and closing to an anniversary VHS release from 20 years ago. This one highlights the direct-to-video special "What's The Name Of The Song?" (named after the classic song of the same name), which was made to promote the show's 35th anniversary. This video will highlight the title card and end credits to both the main feature and the bonus special "Music Works Wonders", as well as the usual previews you would often see in most "Sesame Street" videos from 2003 to 2006. It is registered with ASCAP as " Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street " with several alternate titles including "Sunny Day." [1] It is normally sung by The Kids. The theme introduces the magical world of Sesame Street through its lyrics, stating that it is a place where "the air is sweet" and filled with "friendly neighbors," and frequently asks the now-famous question "Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?" In an unpublished memoir, Jon Stone commented that he personally had come up with many of the ideas for the song: "An integral part of [set designer] Charlie Rosen 's set was a wall of doors...I wanted to use these doors as transition gateways from the reality of the street to our puppet or animation pieces. I told Bruce [Hart] to include 'Every door will open wide,'" which was also meant as a reference to the phrase " Open Sesame," the inspiration for the show's title. "More important, I insisted that the recurring theme in the lyric be 'Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?'
