    A partial charge on an atom is a charge which has a value lower than 1. It is a way of representing that the shared electrons of a covalent bond are unequally distributed. Partial charges are denoted by using the lower case greek letter delta, δ. δ- denotes a partial negative charge and δ+ denotes a partial positive charge.
    Recall that a lowercase Greek delta (δ) is used to indicate that a bonded atom possesses a partial positive charge, indicated by δ +, or a partial negative charge, indicated by δ −, and a bond between two atoms that possess partial charges is a polar bond.
