Common side effects

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include

• Rash
• Itching/swelling
• Severe dizziness
• Trouble breathing

Other things to note

• Constipation, diarrhea, or upset stomach may occur. These effects are usually temporary and may disappear as your body adjusts to this medication.
• If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
• Iron may cause your stools to turn black, which is not harmful.

Products that may interact with this drug include:

• Chloramphenicol
• Certain anti-seizure drugs (e.g., phenytoin)
• Methyldopa

• May cause black stools this is normal
• For tablet products : Food can decrease iron absorption by half. Take on an empty stomach. Tell doctor your complete medical history. Store at room temperature away from heat & sunlight.
• For tablet, chewable products : Chew medicine completely before swallowing. Take 2 hr before or after dairy products & minerals. Call MD or RPh re. timing of taking with other meds. Read directions carefully before start of therapy.
