The pupil is the black hole in the center of the colored part of your eye (iris). The pupil is the pathway that lets light get to your retina.

This teardrop shaped pupil is a sign of globe rupture occurring at the limbus, often from blunt trauma with sudden increase in intraocular pressure (IOP). Treatment is to place an eye shield, obtain CT of orbit, consult ophthalmologist emergently. Anti-emetics may be given to avoid vomiting and resultant increases in intraocular pressure, broad spectrum IV antibiotics, and tetanus update as needed should be given. No pressure should be placed on the eyeball, including measuring IOP or bedside ultrasound.

The pupil is the black opening in the middle of the colored part of your eye (iris). The pupil gets bigger or smaller in response to changes in light. Muscles in the iris control the size of the pupil. Pupil issues can suggest certain diseases.
