A remote control (RC) is a small, usually hand-held, electronic device for controlling another device, such as a television, radio or audio/video recording device^{1 2}. Remote controls commonly operate via infrared signals but sometimes by radio frequency signals¹. Remote controls work with the help of a transmitter that is fitted into the handset. This transmitter sends out a stream of pulses of infrared light whenever someone presses a button. The infrared light forms a pattern that is unique to that button, which lets the receiving antenna know what command to carry out³.
