• The cause of sepsis is bacterial, viral or fungal infection.
• The risk factors include:
• Weak immune system
• Having diabetes or cirrhosis
• Wounds or injuries such as burns

• Get vaccination
• Follow good hygiene practices

If left untreated or if treatment is delayed, then it will lead to severe complications:

• Reduced blood flow to organs such as brain, heart and kidney.
• Reduced flow in arteries results in blood clot.
• Blood clot may lead to gangrene, requiring amputation of affected limb, toes or finger.
• Disseminated intravascular coagulopathy.

A number of medications are used to treat sepsis. The patient needs to be hospitalized. Mechanical ventilation may be required.

Medication

Antibiotics: These are administered intravenously; within the first 6 hours or earlier to the infection. Initially, the treatment starts with broad-spectrum antibiotic to treat a variety of bacteria.

Ceftriaxone . Cefotaxime

Vasopressors: If blood pressure remains too low after receiving intravenous fluids, they may be treated with vasopressors that constrict blood vessels and help increase the blood pressure.

Norepinephrine

Steroids: To reduce inflammation.
