    Fifty years ago, mathematicians John Kemeny and Thomas Kurtz of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire introduced BASIC, a new language for programming computers. The name stands for B eginner's A ll-purpose S ymbolic I nstruction C ode.
    Together, in an incredible collaborative effort with their undergraduate students, Kemeny and Kurtz would build the world’s first truly accessible computer programming language, BASIC, and it would soon become the way people around the world learned to use and program a computer for years to come.
    Invented by John G. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, BASIC was first successfully used to run programs on the school’s General Electric computer system 50 years ago this week–at 4 a.m. on May 1, 1964, to be precise.
    BASIC, one of the earliest computer languages, was invented by John George Kemeny and Tom Kurtzas in 1963.
