    The Teton Range is the youngest mountain range in the Rocky Mountains, created between six and nine million years ago by stretching and thinning of the Earth's crust along the Teton fault. The west block along the fault line rose to form the Teton Range, while the fault's east block fell to form the valley called Jackson Hole. The Teton Range started to grow some 9 million years ago, and is partly located in Grand Teton National Park. The 2.5 billion year old metamorphic rocks that make up the east face of the Tetons are marine in origin and include some volcanic deposits.
