Combined with crop failure, floods, and an epidemic, the dynasty collapsed in 1644 as Li Zicheng's rebel forces entered Beijing. Li then established the Shun dynasty, but it was defeated shortly afterwards by the Manchu -led Eight Banner armies of the Qing dynasty, with the help of the defecting Ming general Wu Sangui.
In 1644, Li Zicheng's troops attacked the Forbidden City. The last Ming emperor hanged himself on a tree, and the Ming Dynasty fell. But the rebel troops didn't enjoy this victory. The Manchus seized their opportunity, breached the Great Wall, defeated Li Zicheng, and conquered Beijing. Then the Qing Dynasty was established.
The last Ming emperor, ChóngzhÄ“n, committed suicide in 1644. Later that year, the semi-nomadic Manchu people prevailed over the chaos and became the ruling Qing Dynasty.
