  2. A urostomy is an opening in the abdomen created during surgery. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), a urostomy directs urine away from the bladder, allowing it to pass out of the body, typically through an opening called a stoma. A surgeon usually creates a stoma on the belly.

After your bladder is removed, your doctor will create a new passage where urine will leave your body. This is called a urostomy. The type of urostomy you will have is called an ileal conduit. Your doctor will use a small piece of your intestine called the ileum to create the ileal conduit. One end of the ileum will be attached to your ureters.

Urostomy (Urinary Diversion): A surgically created opening in the abdominal wall through which urine passes. A urostomy may be performed when the bladder is either not functioning or has to be removed. There are several different types of surgeries, but the most common are ileal conduit and colonic conduit.
Instead of going to your bladder, urine will go outside of your abdomen. The part that is visible outside your abdomen is called the stoma. After a urostomy, your urine will go through your stoma into a special bag called a urostomy pouch.
    medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000477.htm
With a urostomy, a piece of small intestine (ileum) is used as a conduit for urine. The ureter, or the tube that carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder, is diverted through this piece of small intestine. The stoma opening allows urine to flow out of your body and into an ostomy pouch. Urostomies are not reversible.
