Fall season runs from October to December with early registration opening up in June. We run all sports in Fall as the weather cools down during the duration of the season. We typically have 2,000+ players registered with Gilbert Youth Sports in fall which allows for plenty of teams to play and a very fun experience! Please consider volunteering to coach your child’s team! Coaches are parent volunteers – Practice times and locations are arranged at the coach’s discretion. Practices are generally held outside during the weekday evenings. *AZYS does not provide teams with practice locations. Players are required to supply their own ball; i.e., soccer ball, volleyball, basketball etc. Team Shirts are provided to all players. Hats are provided to Baseball/Softball only. Please view the rules for the appropriately sized ball needed for your player. EQUIPMENT REQUIRED BY PARENTS Soccer – shin guards, shorts, shoes, soccer ball. Cleats and soccer socks are optional. Flag Football – mouthguard required, pants/shorts, shoes, football. Cleats are optional. Volleyball – knee pads, black shorts, shoes, volleyball. Basketball – mouthguard recommended, shoes, shorts, basketball. Baseball – pants/shorts, shoes, glove, batting helmet. Bat and balls are optional.

Many teams will practice in a neighborhood grassy area or nearby park. Players are grouped together based off location to help with finding a common area to practice. As with most rec leagues across the world, teams are coached by parent volunteers. Some coaches will be first-timers and others will have vast experience coaching. The coach you get will depend on a variety of factors (your home address, if you requested a specific coach, availability of coaches, etc.) Coaches will attend a coaches’ meeting where plenty of information will be provided to them on how to successfully coach your team. Many teams will not have coaches and parents will need to decide on a head coach.

GYS flag football is offered every fall for 1st through 6th graders in the Gilbert Community School District. All teams are coached by parent volunteers. Practices are held at various fields around Gilbert and schedules will be communicated by coaches. The teams are part of the Central Iowa Recreation League (CIRL). The league includes Ames, Colo-Nesco, Collins Maxwell, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story and South Hamilton. Games will be held at the Gilbert Intermediate Football Field and in other CIRL communities. The Gilbert Youth Sports Tackle Football program is a member of the Youth Sports Foundation and is available to any Gilbert youth entering 5th or 6th grade in the fall of 2025. GYS and the Youth Sports Foundation offer certified coaches, USA Football affiliation and equipment rental. The focus is on teaching fundamentals and an opportunity to be introduced to the sport of tackle football in a safe and enjoyable environment. All registrants are required to attend an equipment fitting session. Practice Begins: Practice begins August 11, 2-3 times per week Game Schedule: September 17 - October 11, 2025. Home games are at Gilbert High Stadium. Does my child have to come to the meeting? If they are signing up, yes. We will need to get them fitted for equipment. If you are just seeking information, your child doesn't have to come, but we strongly encourage it. Do I have to sign up on Sunday the 27th? No, the first part will be sharing information and answering any questions. There will be a second fitting date on Sunday, May 4. The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 7, so equipment can be ordered. If I register online do I still have to attend? Yes. Your child will need to be fitted for equipment

Here are the most asked questions from each season, and, hopefully, answers that will clear things up for you! Where are practices? Each team is responsible for finding their own practice locations. Most teams practice at city or community parks. The coach gets final say! Who will be our coach? As we are a recreational league, each team must have one or more parents volunteer to coach and manage the team. It is always best to have as much help as possible! Many teams return with their same coaches from previous seasons! Where are games? We have game locations around the east valley. For Mesa, they are at Taylor Junior High, Brimhall Jr High, Desert Ridge Jr High and Gateway Polytechnic Academy. What are the costs involved? Your registration payment gets your child on a team and a game shirt/jersey. You will be responsible for shorts, socks, shoes, practice ball and protecting equipment. Can I request a friend? You can request to play with a friend and/or coach. You must be in the same age division, though. Do you offer refunds? Once rosters are issued and sent out, there are no refunds!

The specific soccer ball for your program and player is required and costs $25. Please add this during checkout. Dinomites U5 & U6 program uses the same soccer ball style. Imagineers U8 uses a different style soccer ball than the Dinomites soccer ball. If your player registers for future seasons in the same age program, and can reuse their uniform, you will receive a $25 discount since we won't need to reorder a new set of jersey, shorts and socks. You also won't be required to purchase another soccer ball each season for your program if it is in working condition. This offers significant savings for future seasons! Xara Soccer has designed a soccer program with child development experts and educators for our little ones ages 3 years - 8 years old. Each player receives a themed outfit and matching themed soccer ball. It is an interactive program where parents even get to participate! Coaches teach carefully prewritten lessons based on players' ages. Then every couple of weeks, we have a fun soccer game where we can practice what we learned! This is perfect for young athletes who need to get familiar with the basics of soccer, work on motor skills, become comfortable in a team setting, and try out soccer to see if it is their kind of sport before venturing off to a more competitive format focused on games, try-outs and winning. We want our little soccer players to enjoy having fun with other kids their age, making friends, focusing, all while learning how to become a team player with a common goal. DINOMITES: U4 (3-4 years old) & U6 (5-6 years old) Remember when you were just a little kid? Life was about play, fun and making friends. The Dinomites program brings that same spirit of fun and adventure to the entire family and establishes a soccer experience that lasts a lifetime. The curriculum is based around the adventures of Dino and his sister Deana and there are three principles that act as its foundation; Story Telling, Imagination & Play. All of the learned soccer skills are integrated into the games, stories and play; this allows the children to learn in their natural environment while having fun. The role of the coach is one of story teller, with the coaching points integrated into the stories. Each child has their own Dino Ball that becomes their soccer friend and helps them understand how to move the ball. The ball has been designed to show the fundamental touch points for moving the ball. The parents will be involved through the use of the Backyard Activity Booklet that is based upon the adventures of Dino and Deana.
