Aparently, my OMC-15me isn't genuine mohagany, but rather Sipo, Sepele, or both. Martin doesn't specify. In any case, I think there are real differences, but I don't know if/how much they affect a guitar's sound.

Sipo, Sapele and Khaya are all woods that are sometimes used as substitutes for Genuine Mahogany, as they have similar characteristics in terms of grain and color. However, it's important to note that each wood has its own unique properties and can behave differently when working with them.

EDIT: after viewing on my computer instead of my phone, my best guess is: neck is genuine mahog (very sure), top is genuine mahog (pretty sure), back is something else entirely (pretty sure). Martin uses "genuine mahogany" for real Honduran, and "mahogany" for the look-alikes.

I read that Sipo (aka Utile) is used frequently as a mahogany alternative in construction, flooring, furniture, etc. Is that the reason? I don't know how long it's also been used in guitar making.
