    Heflin served in WW II in the Air Force as a combat cameraman. Appeared in first play in 1928 at age of 20 at the Yale School of Drama. Started with RKO then onto MGM. Won Oscar as Best Supporting Actor in 1943 for his performance in Johnny Eager. His career spanned 34 years from 1936 to 1978. He appeared in 56 feature films.
